Do vegans have better sex?

Do vegans have better sex?

Eating a plant-based diet is tied to many improvements in physical well-being, including your libido. One of the many benefits of going vegan is that it helps reduce artery clogging cholesterol deposits, which leads to better circulation. Strong blood flow is a necessity for brain function, and your brain is your largest sexual organ.

Making healthy changes in your diet can uplift your mood and energy level, because both your mind and body require the proper fuel to run efficiently. “Deficiencies in nutrients can create depression, fatigue, and low energy levels that get in the way of passion and love.”[1] So, if you find you’re “not in the mood” more often these days, the problem may be your diet.

Vegans have higher sex drives because eating a plant-forward diet results in better circulation, improved energy, and higher levels of “feel good” chemicals, like serotonin. “Going vegan can also increase serotonin levels, which can boost sex drive and increase happiness.”[2]

The science behind it

In large part due to poor diet and lifestyle choices, chronic diseases like cardiovascular disease, acid reflux and depression are all on the rise in the population, and many people take medications to manage these issues. Unfortunately, the drugs associated with treating these disorders often come with a number of downsides. “Some prescription medications and even over-the-counter drugs can have an impact on sexual functioning.”[3]

Vegan sexual health is better from the standpoint that the risk of developing chronic disease and requiring medications to treat them is lowered on a strictly vegan diet. One of the reasons is that vegans eat more of the foods that improve circulation and reduce fatty deposits in blood vessels, including fruits, leafy greens, sunflower seeds and beets. Cutting out meat and dairy products and focusing on whole foods like these results in better overall health as well.

Getting your partner to go vegan with you

If you’ve made the leap but are having trouble getting your partner to go vegan, tell them about all of the rewards of choosing this lifestyle. Vegans have better sex, improved energy, lowered risk of certain diseases and less trouble controlling their weight than their carnivorous peers. Cutting out meat serves the environment and reduces animal cruelty as well. It’s a win-win-win proposition.

When you decide to eschew meat and dairy products, keep in mind that there are certain nutrients that you may have previously been getting from those foods, such as calcium and vitamins B12 and D3. In order to ensure good nutrition, there are certain vegan supplement recommendations of which to be aware.
